On 10th April, 2008, few of the patients who had undergone deep brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s disease, met at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai. The occasion was World Parkinson’s Day, celebrated on 11th April, to commemorate the birthday of Dr. James Parkinson, who first diagnosed Parkinson’s disease.

The common discussion thread was the effectivity of Deep brain stimulation in controlling most of the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. However, almost everyone had one or two minor problems that bothered him or her. These were as trivial as constipation or increased salivation to speech and gait disturbances. They had discussed this with their physicians but had not been able to find a satisfactory resolution. To their surprise, they could find many other patients suffering from similar problems and some of them had come up with brilliant resolution. It was echoed that a platform should be created where patients and caregivers can interact freely and exchange their views.

They approached Dr. Paresh Doshi and requested his suggestion on developing a post surgical therapy forum. Dr. Paresh Doshi agreed to support them in all aspects. The idea that was conceived was than followed up by select like minded patients to develop a forum.

On the 9th April, 2009 the website: www.parkinsonsgroup.com was launched by Ms. Dimple Kapadia, a superstar celebrity of Indian film industry.
